advocacy

The AARC is our national organization that supports our profession on a local, state, and federal level on public policies that affect us and our patients.

Their current campaign is to give homebound patients access to respiratory therapists. Currently, homebound patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and other respiratory conditions have limited access to the expertise of respiratory therapists.

Their goal is to have legislation introduced in Congress that would amend the Medicare home health services benefit. Respiratory therapists (whether an AARC member or not) are asked to e-mail, snail-mail, or fax their Members of Congress requesting that the proposed language be introduced as legislation.

Please see the sample letter below!

Please use the contact your congressmen to give your opinion to voice our concerns on all matters.
In our opinion, a lot of the time the American public does not let their elected officials know what we really think.

The Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids has launched a short, animated e-movie spoofing Philip Morris' proposed name change to Altria. The animation can be viewed at www.PhilipMorrisCantHide.org.

While humorous, the animation makes the important point that while Philip Morris wants us to think it has changed, it has not changed its harmful business practices and does not deserve to be let off the hook for decades of deception and wrongdoing.
